Rudi
Rudi was born from a friend asking if we minded her wearing an awful Christmas jumper to our Christmas dinner. Of course no one minded. Then it got competitive; who could come up with the most awesome Christmas jumper? So I decided that knitting one for my son would be an excellent challenge, and be rather quicker than knitting an adult sized one!
Knitted flat in aran weight yarn, this raglan sweater features an intarsia reindeer on the front. The instructions cover three sizes, 2–3 (22 inch chest), 4–5 (24 inch chest) and 6–7 (26 inch chest) years.
Tools: 4.5 mm (US 7) needles; 5 mm (US 8 needles); 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle (any length); tapestry needle; bobbins for colour work. For needles, size should be changed to match gauge (18 sts and 24 rows to 4 inches (10 cm)).
Materials: Any aran/worsted weight yarn (or DK weight yarn held double; if you are doing this you will need to double the yardages) in the following colours: MC 320 (410, 500) m/350 (450, 540) yds, CC 100 (130, 150) m/110 (140, 160) yds, red (oddment, 10 m/10 yds), dark brown (oddment, 20 m/20 yds), light brown (oddment, 45 m/45 yds), cream/white (oddment, 5 m/5 yds), and black (oddment, 5 m/5 yds).
Difficulty: Intermediate (knit, purl, decreasing, increasing, picking up stitches, intarsia).
Pattern Style: Written pattern with chart for the intarsia.
Acknowledgments: Thank you to Kerri Blumer (Kerriknits on Ravelry) for editing the modelled photo of Rudi.
This pattern has been test knitted in all sizes. Some testers noted that the neckline on this jumper was a little on the large size; this has been fixed in the final version.
