This was once a DIY pack from the Dutch HEMA company (10 years ago at least). It contained a pattern, a plastic crochet hook, polyester yarn in all required colours, eyes, a little bell, a piece of ribbon, and the pattern with instructions. The whole package cost less than € 4 if I recall correctly. I have never seen it since, and I think it is too good to go. By giving credits to HEMA I suppose it’s all right. The original was in Dutch and English but I’m only putting English here.
Gauge or yarn are not important. You can use any yarn, Rudolf will just come out bigger or smaller. The Rudolf that I made from the standard yarn is about 4 inches (10 cm) high.
What you’ll need is:
- Yarn in colours brown; red; green (blanket on his back); and light brown for the antlers;
- A hook that matches your choice of yarn; make it a little tighter to make sure no stuffing shows through your stitches;
- stuffing (I used fiberfill stuffing);
- plastic eyes (or any other type of eyes, you could also embroider them);
- a bell and a piece of ribbon, if you want Rudolf to have a bell;
- I used very tiny wire to put in the antlers, but you could do without.
