This comfortable variation on a shawl is joined at the wrists, helping it stay on more like a sweater does!

Pretty ruffles all around give this a soft, feminine look and feel. One size fits most.

The main part of the shawl is worked in one piece, from the right wrist to the left wrist, with the ruffle added afterward.

Here is the Urban Dictionary entry for “shawler”: A knit or crochet hybrid between a shawl and a sweater. Most commonly, a shawl with closed cuffs.

Difficulty level: Moderately Easy

Materials:

  • Nob Hill Alpaca Charm, worsted weight, 655g (878 yards)
  • circular needles, size US 10 (6.00mm)
  • one 1” (2.5cm) button
  • stitch holder for large number of sts – can be a fine yarn, if you wish

Gauge (in stockinette):
4” (10cm) = 14 sts = 20 rows
Cuff + 1st panel = 3” (7.5cm)
Additional panels = 2” each (5cm)

Stitches Used:
knit (K), purl (P), make 1 (M1), knit 2 together (K2tog), slip-slip-knit (ssk), knit front & back (Kfb)

NOTE: I strongly recommend using the Nob Hill Alpaca Charm, or another worsted weight yarn with a similarly great drape. It really makes the finished product!
