About the Pattern
Sometimes a simple shawl is just what the occasion calls for. This pretty elongated half-circle shawl is just that: simple in the best sense of the word. Knit entirely in stockinette, it gets its razzle dazzle from a row of beads, and its ruffled border adds a feminine twist. It looks lovely in a pretty solid or semi-solid colourway, but a variegated, or even speckled yarn would really make it pop. Beautiful baroque beetle pin by Jul Designs.

Yarn / Yardage
Approx. 615 yards / 560 m of fingering weight yarn.

Sizing
One size: wingspan = 60” (152 cm) and depth at centre = 16” (41 cm) after fairly aggressive blocking.

Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows over 4” (10 cm) with 4.5 mm (US 7) needles in stockinette after blocking.

Notions
Tapestry needle, small gauge crochet hook for placing beads, approx. 125 no. 8 glass beads.

Difficulty
This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter who is familiar with provisional cast-on, wrap and turn short-rows, placing beads, and I-cord bind-off. Links to helpful video tutorials are provided in the pattern.

Pattern Notes
The top edge is cast-on provisionally and the body of the shawl is knit from the top down with shaping created by working short-rows. A ruffled border is added and then the bottom edge is bound-off with a two stitch I-cord bind-off, working from top left to top right. Next, the provisionally cast-on stitches of the top edge are picked up and finished with an I-cord bind-off.
