Rufus vest
The Rufus vest is a bouclé oversized vest. It is meant to wear on top of sweaters or tees. It’s a perfect transitional piece.
I wanted to create a comfy piece of knitwear with sporty and contrasting details. The difference of gauge and texture between the edges and the body of the vest creates more structure.
It is knit from top to bottom on circular needles. First you’ll knit the back, then the two fronts. You’ll attach them at the underarm and keep knitting until your desired length back and forth in stockinette. The last step is to add a neat border around the sleeves, collar and fronts.
Sizes
The sizes go from an XS to a 5XL. That is a bust measurement of 71-76 cm (28-30 inch) to a 151-156 cm (60-62 inch). The vest is designed to have between 23 and 18 cm of positive ease.
Materials
The pattern calls for 2 strands of yarn. A bouclé yarn (YARN A) and a DK weight yarn (YARN B).
I used a thrifted bouclé yarn so the exact reference can’t be found anymore. However there are a lot of alternatives out there for bouclé yarn.
For the blue sample I used 300 g of Welcomme Les Boucles (50g = 75m) held together with 350 g of Douce Highland by La Droguerie (100g = 460m) (I held two strands together to make it a DK yarn). That is about 450m of bouclé yarn and 800m of DK weight yarn.
You will need for this pattern 375 (450) 450 (525) 525 (600) 675 (675) 750 m of bouclé yarn and 650 (700) 750 (800) 850 (900) 950 (1000) 1050 m of DK weight yarn (100g = 230m).

Please note that the vest could not be tested from size L to 5XL because I couldn’t find any testers. If you’d like to test it for any of those sizes please feel free to reach out to me.
