Rule III Men's Silk Socks
A pattern for Victorian men’s silk socks, which differ from the ladies’ socks only in length and are therefore unisex in modern times. These socks have no calf decreases, whereas the ladies’ stockings start with a higher stitch count and are intended to be around knee-length or longer. They are one size only, but the book also instructs you to make a swatch and calculate how many stitches you need for a sock in your size. Instructions for a heel flap, toe and clocks (simple decorative colorwork) are included. The pattern calls for size 19 (1 mm or US 00000) needles and knitting silk of ‘the ordinary size’, approximately lace weight.
If you make this pattern, also read the introduction of the book since the language and abbreviations used are not the same as in modern patterns.
