Runaway Bay
Runaway Bay is an asymmetric, top-down shawl with an off-center, right angle. It makes me think of sunsets and sailboat sails. Knit it the size you wish and bind off all stitches or add the pointy lace edging. This is an easy-to-knit shawl that is longer on one side of the spine than the other. If you don’t like the yarnover holes, simply knit in the back loop of the yarnovers on the following row to close them up. It can be knit as small (scarf size) or as large as you like with whatever weight of yarn you wish to use (with the needle size recommended on the yarn label). The pictured sample was knit with 540 yards of Lion Brand Mandala Sparkle (a DK/#3 weight yarn) with a 24” long size 7 (4.5 mm) circular knitting needle. Finished shawl size was 48” neckline x 19.5” deep at spine (unblocked) and 63” neckline x 24” deep at spine (after steam blocking).
