I love the way the smocked design appears out of no where, leaves its mark and then disappears. Rune is a lovely top down cardigan. It is designed with no ease and slightly cropped but would work well with positive or negative ease and any length. Come and explore the mysteries of smocking and get a lovely addition to your wardrobe. The sample was made with Baa Ram Ewe Winterburn Aran a wonderful wooly wool that is spun and made in Yorkshire. It has great stitch definition and a lovely heather color.

Materials:
Yarn: Baa Ram Ewe Winterburn Aran; 100% wool; 185 yds/169 m per 100g skein; color: Brass Band; 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8) skeins; 625 (700, 820, 925, 990, 1050, 1160, 1240, 1335, 1405) yds/570 (640, 750, 845, 905, 960, 1060, 1135, 1220, 1285) m.
Needles: Size 6/4mm or size needed for gauge – 24”/60 cm (or longer) circular needle and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles.
Other: Stitch markers, cable needle, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle, 8-15 buttons size 12-19mm. Sample shown with 8 buttons placed every other button hole.
Gauge: 18 sts and 26 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette Stitch.

Notes:
This rounded yoke cardigan is constructed from the top down in one piece with raglan increases to shape the bodice. To create a flattering fit, short rows in the neckband shape the back neckline higher than the front.
It is modeled with no ease. If you desire positive or negative ease, choose size accordingly.
There is no body shaping, but waist shaping may be added if desired - just note that a multiple of 12 stitches plus 8 is required between the button bands to begin the Bottom Chart.
The length of the body and sleeves can be easily adjusted.
The front bands are worked as part of the body of the cardigan. The holes created by double yarnovers become buttonholes.
The cardigan is worked in Reverse Stockinette stitch, and the Sleeves are worked inside out so they can be knit instead of purled.
Because the row gauges of the button band and the buttonhole band are slightly different, short rows are worked throughout the yoke and body so that the band lengths are even.
