FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust Circumference: 38½” (42¾”, 47”, 51¼”, 55½”, 59¾”) 96 cm (106.5 cm, 117.5 cm, 128 cm, 139 cm, 149.5 cm).
Pullover Length: 24½” (24¾”, 25¾”, 26”, 26¾”, 27”) 62 cm (62.5 cm, 65 cm, 65.5 cm, 67.5 cm, 68 cm).
YARN
Ístex Álafosslopi: 100% Icelandic wool; 109 yds 100 m per 3.5 oz 100 g skein.
Color A: 1232 Arctic Exposure; 5 (6, 7, 8, 9, 10) skeins.
Color B: 0118 Navy; 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2) skein(s).
Color C: 9958 Light Indigo; 1 skein for all sizes.
Color D: 1239 Winter Morning; 1 skein for all sizes.
Color E: 0008 Light Denim Heather; 1 skein for all sizes.
NEEDLES
US #10 6.0 mm, or size needed to obtain gauge;
All sizes: 24” 60 cm and 32” 80 cm circular needles.
Sizes M-XXL: 40” 100 cm circular needles.
Sizes XL-XXL: 60” 150 cm circular needles.
Optional: double-pointed needles for small-circumference knitting.
US #8 5.0 mm, or two sizes smaller than gauge needles;
All sizes: 24” 60 cm and 32” 80 cm circular needles.
Optional: double-pointed needles for small-circumference knitting.
Note: Work the body with the needle length closest to the finished bust measurement. Use the longest needles indicated for your size when joining the body and the sleeves together at the beginning of the yoke. Switch to shorter lengths as needed while working the yoke. Use your preferred method of small-circumference knitting to work the neckband and the sleeves.
NOTIONS
1 stitch marker (to indicate end of round).
4 stitch holders or waste yarn (to hold stitches at each underarm).
1 long and 2 short circular stitch holders or waste yarn (to hold live stitches for body and sleeves).
Blunt tapestry needle.
Blocking pins, if desired.
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
This garment is worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up.
Directions for the Knitted Cast On, the Icelandic Bind Off and the Kitchener Stitch, as well as other useful information, can be found in the Special Techniques section of the book.
The body is worked from the hem to the underarms in stockinette with stranded colorwork without shaping.
The sleeves are worked similarly from the cuff to the underarm and are shaped with paired, symmetrical increases.
The stitches for the body and both sleeves are joined together inside out on one set of circular needles to work the yoke.
The yoke is worked in stockinette on the wrong side. Once turned right side out, the reverse stockinette and stranded floats will be intentionally exposed.
The underarm stitches are placed on stitch holders or waste yarn and are grafted together during the finishing process.
Corrugated ribbing is worked at the hem and the cuffs, while 2x2 Ribbing is worked at the neckband.
Ribbing is always worked using the smaller needles.
