The Rusalka Shawl is a large triangle shawl to keep you cozy on nights when the moon is full. The pattern uses a series of alternating rows to create the distinctive wave pattern. You can use solid or tonal yarns to get a clean, elegant look or choose variegated yarns to make every wave unique.

The Rusalka Shawl was inspired by the aria “Song to the Moon” from the Czech opera Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák. In the aria, Rusalka, a water nymph, is asking the moon to tell the prince of her love for him, which directly inspired the water and moon in this pattern.

The moon and clouds motif is made using the intarsia method, so no need to worry about floats. The pattern also includes full instructions for a “Waves Only” version. The Waves Only version does not include any intarsia and is perfect for the brave Tunisian crochet beginner.

Written in standard US Tunisian crochet terms. This 17-page pattern includes written instructions, notes, advice for picking the perfect yarn for your project, and stitch counts for every row.
