The Rustic afghan square is a gorgeous example of simple stitches and eye-catching colors coming together for the perfect foundation piece. It’s perfect for throw pillows and blankets alike.
The square begins as a 3-round circle and features double crochet clusters for a floral look center. The circle becomes a square with a round of half double crochet. The square is finished off with a round of single crochets worked in the 3rd loop to create surface stitches that complete the look.
The square works best when crocheted using 3 contrasting colors. The sample is worked in the following:
Color A - Paintbox Yarns “Simply Aran” 100% acrylic worsted (3.5oz/201yd; 100g/184m) - Misty Grey
Color B - Knit Picks “Brava” 100% acrylic worsted (218yd; 100g) - Persimmon
Color C - Knit Picks “Brava” 100% acrylic worsted (218yd; 100g) - Peacock or Tideland
Because the total yardage for the square is approx. 30 yds, this square can easily be made with worsted weight scraps.
