Rustic style is always trendy. Rustic style clothing, with it’s simple lines, is comfortable, practical, concise… and very feminine.
Literally translated from French, the word ‘rustique’ means “rough, countryside like, simple”. Rustic style garments, however, can be described as honest, without falseness, refined in its simplicity.
Rustic style, also called countryside style, is an original symbiosis of western wear and traditional wears of various nations of the world. The colors and shades mostly used for this clothes are beige, white, gray, pastel blue, pink and green, as well as carmine, terracotta, brown and lilac.

Vivid and diverse rural themes are presented in the patterns of rustic outfits. In general, these are shades and shapes of nature and natural beauty, which have been successfully used by the peoples of the planet in their outfits for many centuries.

Sure enough, knitted garments and accessories, including various wraps, are important elements of the rustic style.

You may find this shawl pattern (or very similar one) in many places from Peruvian mountains to Mongolian steppes. This is why I named it Around the World.

I offer you a steeked rectangular shawl pattern.
Many people want to to try this technique but are stopped by the fear of cutting knitted fabric.
In my opinion, this rectangular shawl is the best project to try steeking and overcome the fear of scissors.

The shawl is knitted in the round as a tube, where the circumference is the width (or height) of the shawl without finishing, while the length can be adjusted as you go.

You work this tube, then cut it along the steek, and hide the cut edges (steek) inside a folded picot hem.

In knitting, a steek itself is a group of extra 6-12 sts that are for future cutting. The first and the last stitches of the steek (the borders of the steek) are always worked with the same color (I prefer to use a background color) as it makes it easier to pick up stitches for the finishing along these lines. The stitches in between the ‘border lines’ are worked in a ‘chequerboard’ pattern that allows them to stick better to each other.

Suggested yarn: For this project, I recommend to use fingering weight (350-450 m/100 g or 383-492 yard/3.5 oz) 100% sheep wool yarn.
You will need yarn of two different colors - main color (MC) - for the background, and contrast color (CC) for the pattern. You may select two solid colors or solid color yarn and variegated yarn. Two different variegated yarns may look great, too.

You want to be absolutely certain that your yarn wouldn’t bleed! Check the color fastness of the yarn with a swatch.

Optionally, you may incorporate beads in your knitting.

Yardage depends on the desired size of the shawl. As the pattern repeats, you are welcome to chose any size (both, width and length) of the shawl you prefer.

For the medium size shawl (approximately 65 cm x 200 cm) you will need about 250-300 g of each color. Please be aware that the finishing (folded picot hem) takes quite a lot of yarn. So, if you have limited amount of yarn, it’s better to complete the main body of the shawl when you still have about 20% of the yarn remainder.

Difficulty level - moderate. To finish this project successfully, you need to have the following skills: stranded colorwork knitting; pick up stitches along edges; folded picot hem knitting.

Gauge may vary depending on needle size, yarn weight, and your knitting tension.

Needles and notions: 2.5 mm and 3.5 mm circular knitting needles; spare needles or additional cables (cords); stitch markers; scissors; 1.75mm crochet hook; tapestry needle.

Рустикальный стиль всегда актуален. Вещи в этом стиле удобны, практичны, лаконичны, отличаются простотой линий. Отличительная черта рустикального стиля - женственность.
В буквальном переводе с французского языка слово rustique звучит, как «грубый, деревенский, простой». Одежду в стиле рустик можно охарактеризовать, как честную, без фальши, изысканную в своей простоте.
Стиль рустик, также называемый деревенским, представляет собой оригинальный симбиоз country и традиций различных народов мира. Наиболее часто используются такие цвета и оттенки: бежевый, белый, серый, пастельные голубой, розовый и зеленый, а также карминовый, терракотовый, коричневый и сиреневый.
Не менее ярко и разнообразно сельская тематика представлена и в рисунках рустикальных нарядов. В целом, это оттенки и рисунки, напоминающие нам о природе, которые успешно использовались народами планеты в своих нарядах на протяжении многих веков.
И, конечно, важным элементом рустикального стиля являются вязаные вещи, в том числе различные шали и палантины.
Узор этого палантина (или очень похожий) мы можем встретить от гор Перу до степей Монголии. Поэтому я и назвала его “Вокруг света”.

Я предлагаю вашему вниманию палантин, выполненный в технике разрезного жаккарда.
Многие давно хотели попробовать эту технику, но останавливает страх перед разрезанием вязаного полотна.
На мой взгляд, палантин - самая удобная форма для того, чтоб попробовать свои силы в круговом жаккарде со стиками и избавиться от страха перед ножницами.
Связан палантин по кругу, в виде цилиндра, длина окружности - это ширина (или высота) готового палантина без учета отделки, длину можно регулировать в процессе вязания. Вяжем со стиками, затем полотно разрезаем и обвязываем каймой по периметру.

Стик - это участок шириной в 6-12 петель, по которому впоследствие будет сделан разрез. На этом участке нити разных цветов чередуются в шахматном порядке для лучшего сцепления друг с другом.

Материалы. В качестве пряжи я рекомендую использовать овечью шерсть без примесей, 350 - 450 метров в 100 гр.
Понадобится пряжа двух цветов: для фона и рисунка. Можно использовать либо две однотонных, либо однотонную и секционного крашения, либо две секционноокрашенных.
Обратите внимание на стойкость окрашивания пряжи.

Расход зависит от того, какой размер готового изделия вы хотите получить. Поскольку жаккардовый узор повторяется, вы можете выбрать любой удобный для себя размер в длину и ширину. Для палантина среднего размера (примерно 65 см шириной и 200 см длиной) вам понадобится в среднем по 250 - 300 грамм пряжи обоих цветов. Обратите внимание: финальная отделка (кайма) - довольно расходный по материалу элемент. Так что, если вы ограничены в количестве пряжи, нужно принимать решение об окончании основного полотна, когда у вас в запасе есть еще примерно 20% от общего количества пряжи.

Уровень сложности средний. Для успешного выполнения необходим навык вязания жаккарда, а также подъема петель и вывязывания обвязки с зубчатым краем.

Плотность вязания: может варьироваться в зависимости от толщины выбранной вами пряжи и номера спиц.

Рекомендована пряжа: 350 - 550 метров в 100 граммах.

Необходимые инструменты: спицы № 2,5 - 3,5 круговые, дополнительные спицы или лески, маркеры, ножницы, крючок № 1,75, гобеленовая игла.
