This cardigan has a feminine yet still cozy design. It’s looks classic and kind of nostalgic. The cardigan has a textured motif that is one of many variations of the easygoing garter stitch. The twisted stitches in the ribbings give them a lovely braid-like look.

The body is knitted in one flat piece from the bottom up to armholes, then divided to front and back pieces, that are joined back together with 3-needle bind off. The design has no waist shapings, but you can add some if you wish. Sleeves are knitted separately, you can choose whether to knit them flat or in round, pattern includes notes for both options. The sleeves are seamed to the main body to accieve nicely fitting setted in sleeves with smooth finishing. The collar and button bands are picked up and worked last. The cardigan is completed with patch pockets, they are attached to the main body with ladder stitches. The pocket design includes mitered seam allowances that give the finished cardi a polished look.

The design has a tight gauge on purpose, just so it creates a garment that can keep up with every day wearing and washing. The yarn used in the pattern is only a suggestion. You can choose any kind of yarn that will give you the same gauge. The cotton yarn used here is really soft, squishy and lovely, but it makes the cardigan weight much more than it would with wool based yarn.
