Rustle Of Leaves
This is a keyhole scarf with a motif of falling maple leaves done in double-knitting down the middle, and a short-row double-stranded ruffle on the sides.
The “keyhole” -- which allows you to wear a shorter scarf by tucking one end through the hole in the other -- is normally done vertically, but this poses an unnecessary design challenge in this case. Because the ruffles make this scarf more three-dimensional, we can do the “keyhole” horizontally, which is easier to accomplish. Also, the ruffles will “unfold” on the other side of the hole which will keep the scarf from untying itself while you’re wearing it.
Want a longer, more traditional scarf? Just leave out the “keyhole” and keep knitting -- the skeins will have more than enough yarn for a scarf as long as you want it (within reason)
