Safari Play Mat
My little niece loves playing with small plastic animals. I thought it would be fun to make a play mat for her. This is not really a detailed pattern, but the steps I took to create this play mat. Use this as a guideline to make your own. Add more fun features – flowers, rocks, bushes, etc. – to bring the scene to life.
Size: ~ 10.5” x 10.5” (27 cm x 27 cm)
Materials:
• Green yarn. I used one ball of Filatura Di Crosa Zara (100% extra fine superwash merino, 50 g/136.5 yards) in 1727 Green. (If you want to make a full square of this size in one color, you’ll need more than 50 g.)
• Scrap yarns of various colors. Light blue for the pond, dark green for the bushes, grey for the rocks, light brown for the sand, and bright colors for the flowers.
• One crochet hook. I used Japanese size 5/0 (3.0mm) for this play mat.
• Knitting needles. I used size 4 mm for the pond.
• Tapestry needle
• Fabric for lining, sewing thread and needle (optional)
