Safekeeper Socks
My sister Esther Archer Lakhani has written a wonderful YA fantasy book called The Safekeeper. In honor of the series first installment, I designed these socks to have a straight colorful border containing some twists and turns that just might be intergalactic… You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens. If you want to find out what happens with the sock version, see the demo video linked below.
These socks are knit toe-up with short rows, then vertical Color Loops are knit over a stockinette background on the instep and front of the leg. The loops are easy to manage: no bobbins, a predictable pattern, and no weaving in at the end! The heel is a non-traditional gusset and heel flap with no M1’s…all increases are made using Color Loops and shadow stitches. With a narrow heel and high arch, the silhouette is snug and elegant. The pattern is designed to minimize counting and add flexibility in stitch counts so that you can mix and match numbers for foot and leg if needed.
