Sagebrush is a woody and herbaceous plant native to western North America. This aromatic shrub grows in arid and semi-arid conditions throughout a range of cold desert and mountain habitats, such as British Columbia’s Southern Interior. Sagebrush provides food and habitat for a variety of wildlife and was traditionally used as a herbal medicine.

These simple fingerless mitts are knit bottom up with a thumb gusset. A textured column, inspired by our local sagebrush, runs up the center of the mitts.

YARN/YARDAGE

Approximately 40-60g (90-130y) worsted weight yarn.

Long mitts shown in Malabrigo Rios (210y/100g), using 55g Pearl. Short mitts shown in Cascade 220 Heathers (220y/100g), using 45g Lichen.

TOOLS

3.5mm (US 4) and 4mm (US 6) needles for preferred method of working in the round, or size needed to get gauge, stitch markers, waste yarn or stitch holder, darning needle

GAUGE

22 st / 4” in stockinette (measured across palm), with larger needles, after blocking

(A different gauge will affect finished measurements and yardage requirements.)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Short mitts: 7” around palm by 7” long, after blocking
Long mitts: 7” around palm by 9” long, after blocking
