After encountering the drunken Billy Bones, Jim Hawkins learns that Bones had once crewed under the fearsome Captain Flint. Flint had bestowed an important bit of parchment to Bones: a map of Treasure Island. Upon Bones’ death, Jim takes the map. Treasure does a funny thing to men. And it is all Jim can do to stay one step ahead of those who would kill for such an important piece of information. Soon Jim finds himself on the Hispaniola, sailing to Treasure Island.

This blanket is inspired by the story Treasure Island, first published in 1883 by Robert Louis Stevenson. The texture in the blanket represents a map of Treasure Island itself. From the outside going in, there is the ocean, followed by the beach. Next comes the thick forests that give way to the rocky mountains. The yarn overs give an appearance of an “X”. Of course as with any treasure map, X must always mark the spot.

The blanket is knitted from the center out. For a larger size, there is an option of continuing the Ocean Swells chart.
