SAILORS GANSEY ”A sailor goes ashore”
A traditional GANSEY is a durable seamless sweater worn by the sailors and fishermen. It originates on the island of Guersey, and its his-tory goes back more than 400 years.
Through the centuries the traditional patterns have been traveling across Europe in the sweat-ers, and they have evolved where the seamen went ashore.
The Gansey sweater is one of the most practical pieces in the history of knitting. Often knitted by the wives to shelter the men from the elements out at sea.
Here it is in a lighter version for all of us – at sea or anywhere else.
