Sailor’s Knot Hat is a simple 2x2 ribbing hat with feature a beautiful sailor knot pattern, knitted from the bottom to top and seamless.

It is presented in 3 samples each with different yarn weights and number of stitches, which correspond to standard sizes. By playing with other combinations of yarns and stitches you can obtain more different sizes.

Needles : (2.75 mm and 3 mm) (3.5 mm and 4 mm) US 5 and 7 (3.75 mm and 4.5 mm) circular needles and DPNs.

Notions : Cable needle, 1 marker for the beginning of round and 4, 5 or 7 other markers, tapestry needle.

Measurements are taken after soaking, but due to the elasticity of the 2x2 ribs they are only approximative.

Pattern notes :

Cast on stitches with The Alternate Cable Cast-On, which allows the stitches to be cast on in 1x1 rib without requiring a long tail. Then a set up round reorganizes stitches in order to obtain 2x2 ribs.
This cast-on is elastic and particularly elegant.
If you are not comfortable with this technique you can use any other and not go through the set up round.

Charts are provided for Sailor’s Knot Pattern (section 2) and Decreases (section 4). They are read from right to left, starting at the bottom and represent 1 repeat. Place markers after each repeat to make things easy.

Decreases : If you are not comfortable with few stitches remaining during decreases, change the circular needle to double-pointed needles.
