A 20-stitch, repeatable colorwork motif including the Florian Cross (an historic and universal symbol for firefighters) and tiny fires.

The symbol on most fire department emblems is St. Florian’s Cross, named after the commander of the first organized firefighting contingent within the Roman army, in the third century. Florian is the patron saint of firefighters, chimney sweeps, and brewers.

Check out this page for more historical background on the Florian Cross--including details on another oft-referenced firefighting symbol: the Maltese Cross.
