Salamander
Salamander is a fun and explosive shawl for your wardrobe. Based off the mythical Salamander, this shawl will keep you warm and cozy in the Fall and Winter.
In mythology, the Salamander was a creature either born of fire itself, or a creature that was immune to fire. The stories painted the Salamander as dangerous, impervious, and even immortal creatures. Although we know natural salamanders to be none of these things, these myths did teach caution if you were to come across one of these animals. All salamander species excrete a toxins across their skin, which is not deadly to humans, but if ingested could make you sick.
Enough of that history lesson! Salamander uses both written and charted instructions. The lace repeat is only charted, so knitters should be comfortable using charts. This lace chart is based off of an Old Shale-type lace pattern and is not overly difficult, even for a beginning chart user.
Salamander is written for one size using 550 yards of DK weight yarn. If you want to increase the size of this shawl, continue working the lace section, adding more and more lace repeats until the shawl is your desired length and width. Then work the finishing section.
