Sally Jayne's Shawl
This shawl was designed for my best friend--my mother. She has a particular fondness for ladybugs and I found the perfect lace patterns that would represent these creatures from studying traditional Estonian lace. The body is a ladybug pattern bordered with beautiful blossoms.
The shawl is simple: worked flat with wrong side rows being purled while the lace is interesting and keeps one engaged without being overly difficult. The shawl is started at the neck with a garter stitch tab and worked toward the bottom edge. There is only one size available (approx. 72” wide and 32” deep) but the shawl can easily be adjusted by altering number of chart repeats from the number in the pattern. Changing pattern repeats will alter amount of yarn required.
This has become my mother’s favorite shawl to curl up in or to wear out for the evening--even on a chilly winter evening. Light-weight lace shawls can be surprisingly toasty when made with a fiber such as fine wool or cashmere.
