Salt Hat.
Salt Hat is a beanie to match the SALT cowl, with simple textured stitches and slightly odd crown-shaping. The combination of vertical and horizontal lines created by the welting and ribbing is pretty nice, and it’s soft and functional in the yarn shown for the sample.
Size Large can be knit without a set of DPNs—all you’ll need is a 16” circular needle, and a spare DPN or crochet hook to help with finishing. You can knit one adult hat and at least one baby hat from a single skein of yarn. Man, this would have been a nice Mother’s Day pattern; too bad I work slow.
Salt Hat is also a good alternative to Mafic & Felsic, with a similar but more straightforward structure. On the other hand, if you like Salt, you might like those other hats, too.)
Materials:
100(135) yards or 1 skein of Malabrigo Arroyo
1 16” circular needle in US6/4.0mm, or size needed for gauge.
For the smaller hat, you may need a set of DPNs in this size, too.
One spare knitting needle, or a crochet hook, in a similar size.
Tapestry needle.
GAUGE:
Gauge is 20 sts and 36 rows measured over 4”/10cm of blocked welted pattern. Please be sure to check your gauge.
Measurements:
A hat in two sizes: large fits most adults (22-23”), while small is pretty small and should fit some sort of baby (<20”).
Flat Measurements, Large: 7.5”/19cm deep, 8.5”/22cm wide; ribbed sections slightly deeper when worn.
Flat Measurements, Small: 6.5”/17cm deep, 7”/18cm wide; ribbed sections/sides slightly deeper when worn.
