The Great Salt Lake shoreline is an ever-changing geography. Maps of the lake often need to show approximations of the lake’s boundaries, with a high point and low point outline. This fluctuation is routine for people and animals that live along the banks and make for a beautifully vibrant ecosystem. This cowl is knit using wool from sheep raised along the shores of Great Salt Lake; hand-spun and hand-dyed by local craftswoman Judy Gunn who also lives on the lake’s shore. You can create your own version using local-to-you wool, supporting your own local craft businesses.

This design was featured in the 2015 Alfred Lambourne Prize exhibition by Friends of Great Salt Lake. Friends of Great Salt Lake is a Utah non-profit that works to preserve and protect the Great Salt Lake Ecosystem and to increase public awareness and appreciation of the Lake through education, research, advocacy, and the arts.
