Salty Fingerless Mitts
This pattern has been discontinued but you will always have access to any pattern you have purchased. We always recommend that you store your patterns off-site as well as in your Ravelry library.
A clever Cable and Lace design ~ no gusset shaping required as this design incorporates offset thumb slits ~ Lace lattice extends from the top and bottom of the Cable on the back of the hand ~ on the inside of the hand the lower Lace lattice and Cable merge into the twisted rib palm ~ just that little bit of different!
SALTY is a pair of seamless fingerless mitts whose shaping is cleverly accomplished via the cable at the wrist. Offset thumb slit openings require no special shaping and keep the cable motifs centred on both the front and back of the hand. On the back of each mitt the diagonal lattice splays outward from the top of the cable and then returns to the centre point; on the palm side, the diagonal lattice splays outward and continues into 1x1 twisted ribbing providing a less bulky, more comfortable palm.
Method
From the Estonian Cast-On which provides a very elastic cuff (a picture tutorial is included) the mitts are knit circularly from cuff to thumb slit, knit back and forth for the length of the thumb slit, and then the work is rejoined to knit the top ribbing in the round. A picture tutorial for ending a bind off in the round smoothly is also included.
Sizing is accomplished through changing needle sizes; therefore, all sizes use one set of numbers throughout the pattern. Individual written directions and charts are given for the Right and Left mitt.
