SAM & SUE SET - is the cutest little unisex hat & cowl set made especially for boys & girls 6 to 9 months of age. The hat is knit seamless from the bottom up. The cowl is knit seamless from the top down. Both (hat & cowl) are made from just one (100 gram) ball of yarn including the pom poms. Since babies cannot wear scarves like adults, I felt the need to design something practical and functional that would keep babies warm and cozy. This is a very quick and easy project to do. Great for gift giving as well. Please refer to the photos (here and on the pattern) to see how I used the Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky yarn strategically in order to use it all appropriately for the self patterning yarn that it is. Basically, I started the hat with the pattern portion and the cowl with the self shading portion. The parts I cut off, I used for the pom poms. There was just a few scrap pieces left over. This complete set could also be made out of any chunky weight yarn in which you could incorporate your own colour work into it or leave it plain. You can modify the cowl to make it larger, simply by doing one or two more increases or whatever you need to get the circumference you want. In this case, you will need a second ball of yarn unless you didn’t make all the pom pom’s. Be creative and have fun with it. Happy Knitting!
