This beautifully colored bird is perfect for the advanced-beginner crocheter who want to experiment with color in their amigurumi.

Samantha Song Bird is crocheted in the round, with some parts worked back and forth in rows. Her intriguing coloring is created by alternating between solid-colored and variegated yarn. The feathers on her wings and tail look fancy, but are a very simple stitch pattern.

This pattern uses single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, chains, and slip stitch. There are also several pieces to sew together.

Use a small enough hook to make a firm fabric and ensure that the stuffing does not show through. I used a size F (3.75mm) hook, and worsted weight yarn. You can use thicker or thinner yarn, just be sure to pick an appropriate hook.

You will need about 100 yards, probably less, of yarn in the variegated color, and around 100 yards, probably less, of the solid color yarn. You will also need a very small amount of orange or yellow yarn for the beak. She is stuffed with polyester fiber fill. The face is made with buttons, but safety eyes or embroidery are also adorable.
