Thank you so much for considering my Sampler Cowl for your next project. I hope this super squishy cowl gives you as much pleasure to knit as it gave me to design!

Level: Suitable for knitters of all abilities - including beginners!
Finished dimensions: width 20cm, length varies. My sample was knit to a gauge of 14 stitches and 16 rows to 4 inches. The scarf is knit as far as you would, like; the cowl’s finished circumference is approx 120cm. Gauge is not essential here, although if you’re knitting much tighter than this, your cowl may not wrap around twice, and you will require much more yarn to knit the desired length of scarf.
Stitches used: cable cast on / knit / purl / basic cast off
Yarn Requirements: For this sample I used Wendy Serenity Chunky: 70% acrylic, 20% alpaca, 10% wool. Each 100g ball has 140m of yarn. This project requires 2 balls but there is enough left over to create my classic fingerless mitts afterwards.
Equipment: A pair of 6mm straight needles, a 5mm needle, and a darning needle. You may also find a row-counter useful.

I’ve designed this cowl to use only knit and purl stitches. Each panel up to and including the chevron, represents a different skill level using these stitches. Although I have provided the pattern for a replica cowl to the one I’ve created, as a beginner you may want to make some sections longer to enable you to practise the skill, or omit sections altogether! This is very much your project and you must be brave enough to treat it as such.
