I designed this scarf as a teaching tool for my second and third level knitting classes at Fringe. It is designed to progress in level of difficulty, to build confidence, advance skills and increase stitch pattern recognition.

If you would like permission to use this pattern to teach a class, please contact me via ketchumk05@gmail.com. You and each of your students will need to purchase a copy of the pattern. I appreciate your consideration and understanding.

I originally knit this in a single semi-solid colorway, as solid colors would better show the various stitch patterns. I chose Malabrigo Merino Worsted because new knitters just love how it feels and the colors are quite attractive. In 2013, when I began knitting second samples for my patterns, I thought it would be fun to use three colorways to really differentiate the stitch pattern changes. I chose Classic Elite Yarns Chesapeake for both the tonal twist of the yarn and the fact in came in 50 gram balls. Generally, any worsted to aran weight yarn should work nicely with this pattern. I did use all but a scrap of the Malabrigo skein to make the original sample, but there is enough left over of each color of the Chesapeake to make a short fringe on the ends if desired.

For those of you that purchased the hard copy pattern from Fringe in Salida, CO before October 2013, please note there is an error at the end of Section 5 - you should knit only 1 row before proceeding to Section 6 (rather than 2).
