Samson Baby Blanket
This blanket was designed for a friend’s baby (named Samson) and it came out so beautifully that it only seemed natural to share the pattern.
This is an easy yet beautiful blanket made up of 2 coordinating solid granny squares joined together in a checkerboard type layout. the pattern includes a matching border and 4 options for edge stitches to add that perfect finishing touch.
The pattern includes full step by step written instructions (US crochet terminology) with photos, as well as pattern charts and layout diagrams. There is also a video tutorial available on YouTube and linked in the pattern.
Instructions for my favorite JAYG (join as you go) technique are also included for a beautiful and easy way to join the squares, but is a completely optional step (you may substitute with a different sewn or crocheted join if preferred).
The simple understated style of this blanket is perfect for a baby boy or girl. I used a white and light tan for a timeless neutral palette that means it can easily be shared between siblings of different genders or passed down as an heirloom.
The suggested yarn is Juniper Moon Farms Cirrus which is a cuddly soft DK weight chainette Mako cotton in the colors Porcelain and Canvas, but feel free to use any DK yarn and any colors you prefer. A worsted weight yarn would work well too if you would like a larger blanket such as a throw rather than a baby blanket.
The pattern makes a blanket that is roughly 30” x 40” (a standard baby blanket size), however you can modify it to be any size you prefer, or make it square instead of rectangular… the beauty of granny squares and modular construction is that the possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
