Sanctuary Shawl
This shawl is a cosy worsted weight triangular shawl, full of interest to knit in the way of changing textured patterning of twisted stitches and soothing Garter, finish off with a seed and cable border, and simply perfect to snuggle up in.
Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, binding off, knitting, purling, slipping stitches purlwise/knitwise, passing stitches over, & Right & Left Twists. It also involves regular increasing by way of Make 1 Left & Make 1 Right.
Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:
Requires approx. 990 yards / 906 metres Worsted weight yarn.
For the Sample I used: De Rerum Natura, Gilliatt,
(100% Wool - Merino, 100g, 273 yards / 250 meters) in the colourways as listed below, but any wool based Worsted Weight yarn of choice should work fine.
Yarn A: ‘Lagon’ (Aqua), 227 yards / 208 metres
Yarn B: ‘Poivre Et Sel’ (Beige), 481 yards / 440 metres
Yarn C: ‘Poivre Blanc’ (Cream), 282 yards / 258 metres
Needles: 5mm / US 8 Circular needle (80cm-150cm)
Notions: 48 stitch markers (or reflective of your cast on number) & unique BOR marker. Cable Needle, similar in size to your chosen needle. Tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave in ends.
Gauge: 4” (10 cm) on 5 mm / US 8 needles (after blocking)
18 sts & 40 rows in Garter stitch, 20 sts & 28 rows in Stockinette stitch
1 repeat + 1 stitch in the 16 stitch/8 row Knit & purl chevron pattern Repeat, which can be found within the written instructions on page 4, rows 49 – 56 and as a chart on page 13. (I would suggest casting on at least 2 of the 16 stitch repeats and working at least 2 of the 8 rows, to have enough to measure, and to start from the actual beginning of the repeat comfortably).
Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.
Finished measurements:
Width: 67” / 170cm
Depth: 30” / 76cm
