Sand Dune Square
Sand Dune Square is one of the square (Square 14) in the Tunisian Blanket CAL 2022 hosted on knitterknotter.com
The technique used in this Sand Dune Square have been inspired by the Canadian Smocking of woven fabrics, so we may call this technique as Tunisian Crochet Smocking, which serves as an alternative to the tunisian cables, by giving a good embossed fabric but easier to work.
This technique was first used in the Rimaye Cowl, published in the Interweave Crochet, Winter 2020.
Sand Dune Square is the best way to practice this technique in a simple square with two modules. There are endless interesting possibilities and mutations to create different designs, patterns and projects with this Tunisian Crochet Smocking.
Finished Size
12” X 12”
Yarn
Any Light Worsted or Worsted Weight Yarn; Approximately 125g / 282 yards (257 m) required.
The yarn used for the sample shown is 100% Wool, Light Worsted yarn with the yarn band saying US G/6 - 7 (4.00mm - 4.50mm) hook to be used.
Note: This pattern gives you a dense fabric with a light worsted yarn, like it has been worked with a worsted weight yarn, when worked with a hook size as suggested below.
Hook
Use hook size +1.50mm to that mentioned in the yarn band. The size used for the sample shown is US I/9 (5.50 mm) Tunisian Hook.
Note: A dense fabric works well for this technique, giving a better embossed look which holds its shape well. So choose your hook accordingly.
Notions
Stitch Markers, Scissors, Yarn Needle.
Gauge
19sts X 23rows = 4” X 4” in tks.
Pattern is written to help working without making a gauge swatch when a non-shrinking light worsted or worsted weight yarn is used. (So do check if your yarn shrinks or not before starting the project)
