“Sanddorn Spritz” is a sweater with an innovative stripe design, worked top-down. Using the “2-column-stripes” technique, you won’t have to cut your yarn until you reach the hem. Because of the two colors, working in the round (though technically possible) is not straightforward, so back and front will be joined at the side seams. Stitches for the sleeves are picked up from the armholes. The sleeves are worked top-down to desired length, with the option of a sleeveless version.

(In case you wonder where the name comes from: “Sanddorn Spritz” is a drink made of Northern Germany’s aperitif “Andalö” (based on sea buckthorn) and Sekt (sparkling wine) which I happened to drink the first time on the day before casting on my new project, which comes along in very similar colors.)

Needles: Main needle size is 3,0mm; 2,5 and 2,0mm for edges.
Gauge: 28 sts x 38 rows in Stockinette.

Yarn:
Approx. 600+600/ 650+650/ 700+700/ 750+750/ 800+800 m (color C1 + color C2) of a Light Fingering weight yarn.
For my long-sleeved sample, I have used “Das Mondschaf Leo” (50% Alpaca, 25% Silk, 25% Linen, 400m/ 100g, in combination with “Skudderia Egypt“ (with the same blend of fibers and yardage, unfortunately not listed in Ravelry yet).
For my sleeveless sample, I have used the old version of Pascuali Pinta and (discontinued) Fiberpassion Pinta.

Overview: These are the basic steps to work the sweater (top-down in 2 pieces, connected at the shoulders):
Step 0 (optional): Work swatch and try out the “2-column-stripes” technique.
Step 1: Back: Starting with the slanted shoulders and the back neck, work back top-down to hem, in stripes. Decreases are used to shape the armholes and then (less frequently) the lower body.
Step 2: Front: Pick up shoulder sts from back, first for left front piece, then for right front piece, mirroring the slanted shoulders of the back. Work in 8-row-stripes, with neck increases (and side decreases as for the back). After the front neck has been shaped, join front pieces and continue front in 2-column-stripes to hem, with occasional decreases to shape the lower body.
Step 3: Sleeves: With C2, pick up sts from armhole and (after a stripe in short rows) work sleeves top-down, in 8-row-stripes, ending with a rolling cuff. Start the other sleeve with C1.
For a sleeveless summer version, work rolling cuff directly after picking up sts.
Finishing: Close side seams. Add rolling hem and rolling neck edge.
