Sanders Street
Number 11 in my “Michiganisms” sock series!
The existence of rock salt in the Detroit area was discovered in 1895. The struggle down to the salt beds is one of the most impressive engineering accomplishments of its time. The Detroit Salt Company, LLC, has owned and operated Michigan’s only rock salt mine since 1997. This privately held, woman-owned business is as rooted in southeast Michigan as the mine itself. The mine supplies its customers, in and around the state if Michigan, with tons of rock salt to safely maintain the precarious winter roads of the Midwest. The gigantic salt mine spreads out over more than 1,500 acres with over 100 miles of roads and is Detroit’s “city beneath a city”. The mineshaft opening is located at 12841 Sanders Street in Detroit, Michigan.
Knit from cuff to toe with an easily remembered pattern they are a joy for both beginner and experienced sock knitters.
Thanks for looking at my project and I hope you enjoy knitting these yummy socks!
