The Sandrine shawl is an adaptation of the world-famous Virus shawl.
I wanted to make a Virus shawl for my sister’s birthday, but when I showed her the pattern, she liked the overall shape, but not the large holes. So I came up with a way to fill these holes and tweaked the stitch count to get a better drape :)
This shawl is worked by starting at the top, in the middle, and growing the pattern outwards and downwards.

I used this pattern to run successful face to face workshops, but given a certain pandemic, I offered it for free as a CAL in my Facebook group (Unit 1), where it will remain for the foreseeable future!

I had to do a bit of maths (including having to weigh my existing shawls), because I am terrible at keeping track of what I use and writing down any project specs.
You basically need 200g of DK yarn of your choice. Not all DK yarns are equal, so I’d recommend you make sure you have at least 550m of yarn.

Solid colours work well if used in stripe patterns. Colour-changing yarns with long stripes (as found in some cakes) work best.
Although DK normally works well with a 4mm hook, you want your shawl to have some drape so use a 4.5 or 5mm hook.

I believe this shawl can work with ANY yarn weight, as long as you make sure to use a slightly oversized hook.

The size of the finished shawl will vary depending on the yarn you use, your own tension, when you decide to stop, as well as whether you block it (and if you do, how much you stretch it). Bear in mind that 100% acrylic will not stretch much when blocked; the higher the wool content, the more stretch you can achieve when blocking.

Stitches used
I am using UK terminology.
Chain (ch), slip stitch (ss), double crochet (dc) and treble (tr). The exact placement of the stitches (in stitches or in chain spaces) is clearly indicated throughout the written instructions.
