You can knit a sustainable washable reusable sanitary menstrual cycle period napkin maxi pad for each day of your cycle, & make a bunch of inserts in any/all of your favorite stitches.

For waterproof layers for the heaviest days, I’ve read about women who’ve had success cutting inserts out of shower curtain liners & waterproof tablecloths from dollar stores.

level: intermediate

skills: know how to CO (cast on), k (knit), p (purl), sl (slip), sl purlwise with yarn in front, sl purlwise with yarn in back, ssk (slip, slip, knit slipped stitches together), k2tog (knit two together), yo (yarn over), BO (bind off)

needles: US size 13 9mm straight needles (for linen stitch pad pouch),
& US size 9 5.5mm straight needles (for everything else)

yarn: Blue Sky Fibers worsted 100% organic cotton in colors #604 Aloe (green pad pouch) & #614 Drift (white wings),
Sprout of Verde Collection by Classic Elite Yarns 100% organic cotton in color #4375 (gray insert),
& Lily Sugar ‘n Cream worsted 100% cotton in colors #82 Jute (tan insert) & #26 Light Blue (blue insert)

additional materials: small button ~5/8 - 3/4” (~1.5 - 2cm) wide, & yarn needle

size: pictured pad minus wings measures 7” (18cm) long by 3” (8cm) wide

gauge: not important as long as you make a dense fabric with minimal spaces
