Santa claus wind spinner ornament
This is a written pattern for a windspinner in the shape of a Santaclaus. You can hang it in your Christmas tree or outside in the wind to enable the spinning.
The level is intermediate to advanced intermediate. There are several pictures included in the pattern to show some of the details. Note that it’s not a step-by-step photo tutorial though.
Stitches and (US)terms used in this pattern:
- mc = magic circle
- foundation chain
- ch = chainstitch
- slst = slipstitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sc (or hdc, dc etc.) incr = 2 sc (or hdc, dc etc.) in the same stitch
- sc (or hdc, dc etc.) decr = crochet 1 stitch in 2 stitches =decrease
- flo = frontloop only
- blo = backloop only
- picot
I used acrylic yarn (Scheepjes Colourcrafter/Stylecraft Special dk), which is 295 m/ 322 yards per 100 gram, and a 3.0 mm hook, 3.5 mm for body and hat.
My Santa windspinner was about 6.5 cm/2.5 inches diameter and 11 cm/4.3 inches high.
You can use other yarn thicknesses, the spinner will be bigger or smaller in that case.
Materials you need:
-yarn: I used less than 55 meters/ 60 yards of yarn in total, in the colors red, skincolor, white and black.
-some stuffing
-a cord for hanging the spinner. A single string of your yarn will work too.
-optional: some beads
Have fun making the windspinner!
