Make your little ones Christmas this year by gifting them their very own Santa Suit! This cute little outfit will not only keep them warm this winter but will surely put a smile on the face of even the biggest scrooge! The Jacket front and back panels are knit seamlessly from the bottom up. When the correct length for the body has been reached, the stitches are then split and the front left, front right and back panels are finished separately. The shoulders are shaped using short rows and then seamed together using the 3 needle bind off technique. Stitches are then picked up from around the arm hole, joined in the round and knit down to the wrist. The hood is created by picking up stitches around the neckline and then shaped also using short rows. Finally, the ‘wrap around’ button band is created by picking up stitches along the front edges and incorporating the hood stitches which gives a neat finish.

The trousers, also knit in the round, feature a folded waistband which incorporates an I-cord tie ‘belt’. This is achieved by provisionally casting on stitches to start, knitting the waistband to double thickness (and working a couple of eyelets for the tie) then joining the live stitches with the provisional ones to secure. More short rows are used to shape the back of the trousers (giving extra space for a nappy!) which are then shaped towards the gusset/legs. The gusset and leg stitches are split and the legs are knit in the round down to the ankle. The gusset is closed at the end and this can either be done using a 3 needle bind off (worked from the inside) or by grafting the stitches together using Kitchener stitch.
