Santa's Christmas Hat Overlay Mosaic Square
This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.
I was going for a quirky fun holiday hat and the finished sample square make me think of the Grinch’s twisted hat, lol! I just wanted something a bit different from the usual triangle shape.
Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.
You will need 3 colors of yarn - one for the background, red for the main hat color & border, and & white for the lower rim & ball, although any 3 colors would be fine.
This is a great way to use up scraps! For projects using all 3 colors, you will need approximately 2 oz of the background color, 1-1.5 oz of red and .5-1 oz white, when using a worsted or aran (wt 4) type of yarn.
Pattern is in US crochet terms.
