Santa's Mailbox
Make your very own mailbox to send letters to Santa! This cute little DIY Christmas decoration is a fun way to get the kiddos involved in sending their wishes to the North Pole. The door opens and closes with a crocheted button and loop closure. It’s the perfect size for small hands, but if you’d rather it not be played with, you can remind them that “Santa can only get the mail if we leave the mailbox on this special shelf!” To extend the fun, open it up later to reveal the letter has disappeared! Maybe your home’s friendly Elf has even hand delivered it.
The mailbox is made in two pieces that are stitched together, not sewn. The only sewing you’ll have to sew is attaching the details: the flag, the lettering (though I attach them mostly with craft glue), button, and embroidered sparkles. Feel free to use an actual button or embellish with other Christmassy items. You could even attach the flag with a button so it can functionally move up and down!
The pattern is labeled as intermediate as it includes star stitch. There are lots of photos to walk you through every step. Have fun with it and don’t worry about it being too perfect; it’s modeled after being made by child at Christmas, after all.
