Saphira’s Wings was originally published as a “mini-clue” KAL in January 2019. The individual clues have now been combined into a single document. Several versions of the shawl can be seen on my Project Page. A new three color version can be seen here.

Construction -
Saphira’s Wings will be knit using a technique called “swing knitting.” Offsetting triangles will be created using “German Short Rows.”

Triangles knit with Color A will have various lace designs.

Short rows are used to shape “Saphira’s Wings.” We will not be using the typical “w&t,” we will be using German Short Rows (GSRs). An explanation for working GSRs is provided in the pattern.

Yarn -
The yardage recommendations for Saphira’s Wings are:
• Fingering weight;
• Yardage needed approximately 600 yards (550 meters) of each color, variegated and solid;

• Color A - This color should be a solid or tonal color, that will not obscure a lace pattern
• Color B - This color can be anything you want from variegated, self-striping, or speckled. You can also use leftover sock yarn or mini-skeins, making it the ideal stash-buster.

Any combination of colors can be used. My project page shows a recent version using three colors and the pattern includes the amount of yarn used for each triangle and the i-cord bind off. The pattern can also make excellent use of fingering leftovers!

• The stole can also be knitted in any weight yarn with the corresponding needle size. Heavier weight yarns will require larger needles and will have a higher yardage/meter requirement.

Tools -
• Needle size: US4/3.5mm
• Two stitch markers that differ in appearance. One will be considered a Unique Marker to help identify the current triangle you are knitting
• Darning needle to weave in ends
