“mother, I cannot weave —
slender Aphrodite has overcome me with longing for a girl”
- Sappho
.
While I didn’t set out to knit the embodiment of a rather notorious sapphic meme, when my dear @greyjadeherbals pointed out that’s what I’d done — well, any way you cut it, the visual pun is there
.
Sapphic Handshake is a colourwork glove design featuring all-over plaid and a suggestively placed scissor motif. The pattern includes 2 sizes and multiple options for finger finishing. Head over to my Payhip shop for the pattern download!
.
Of course, this isn’t exclusively a sapphic pride pattern: the scissor motif, much like Sappho’s poetry, can be interpreted any way you like. Scissors are as much a symbol of craft, of severance and self-expression. Feel free to imbue them with your own meaning.
.
Many thanks to @craftyferretediting for tech editing, and to @insomniacknits and @aseriesofsteps for preview knitting

Image description: a series of photos showing a pair of purple and black handknit gloves. Both gloves have an all over plaid pattern, with a large silhouette of a pair of scissors that sits over the inner wrist and thumb. One glove is fingerless. The other has half fingers on the index and middle finger, and full fingers on the rest of the hand.
