Sapphire Martini Socks
“Wouldn’t it be fun,” I thought one night while sipping a cocktail, “to have a series of sock patterns with drinks the same colour as the yarn? And wouldn’t it be neat,” I went on, “if they all had a design element in common, like traveling stitches or little cables?” And so I began to design and knit a Twisted Trilogy of socks. This is the second pair of the set. Check out its siblings, Boulevardier and Aviation!
The Sapphire Martini Socks have staggered twists that wave back and forth over a stretchy ribbed background and remind me of the shape of a martini glass. Of course, you don’t have to knit them in blue, but the stitch pattern will show up best if you choose a solid or semi-solid yarn.
SIZE / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Fits a foot that’s 8.5 inches around at widest point. The stitch pattern is stretchy and quite forgiving, so erring on the small side is all right.
YARN: Any fingering-weight yarn you like that will give you the appropriate gauge. The sample socks were knit with Classic Elite Yarns Yuri. At the gauge I got with this yarn, I needed a 72 stitch sock – your foot may vary!
GAUGE: 36 stitches = 4” / 10cm in stockinette; one 12-round pattern repeat is approximately 0.75”.
AND ALSO: size US 1 / 2.25mm double pointed needles (or size needed to get gauge) plus a darning needle.
