Sashiko Neckwarmer
This pattern was inspired by the tessellating patterns of traditional Japanese Sashiko embroidery. Using a variegated and a solid yarn in the pattern gives a beautiful stained glass sort of look. The design would also work equally well with two solid colors. This neckwarmer is knit seamlessly in the round from the bottom up.
Size:
24” around by 9.5” tall
Materials:
2 skeins (each at least 90yds) sock weight yarn; one variegated (MC), one solid (CC).
U.S. Size 2.5 circular needle.
Gauge:
23 stitches by 34 rows = 4” x 4”
Techniques Used:
2x2 ribbing (k2, p2)
Stockinette Stitch (st. st.) - knit all right side rows, purl all wrong side rows
Knitting in the round
Stranding and weaving with multiple yarns
Following a charted pattern
To get a slightly different size of neckwarmer, you can simply adjust the yarn and/or needle to achieve a different gauge. For a larger adjustment in size, add or remove repeats of the chart pattern. At the gauge given one repeat of the chart pattern will measure approximately 5.66” wide by 3.66” tall.
