Saturday Morning Shawl
The Saturday Morning Shawl is inspired by those nostalgic mornings spent cozying up on the couch, eating cereal, and watching cartoons as a kid. The various stitch patterns and yarns used in the shawl are meant to evoke the 90s and staticky/glitchy TVs.
Get comfy, pop on your favorite childhood show, and let the nostalgia guide you through this radical knit!
Sizes: The Saturday Morning Shawl is written as one size, but can be customized to shorten the length if you’d like a slightly smaller shawl. The finished measurements of the sample shown here are 60”x20”.
Materials: Stitch markers, tapestry needle
Suggested Yarn: For this project you’ll need 3 skeins of fingering weight yarn and one skein of lace weight. The yarn used in the sample is a locally dyed yarn called Tempe Yarn’s Dyelicious in pink, green, and purple. Also used is Lang Yarns Mohair Luxe in gray. I recommend splitting your mohair skein into 2 skeins, as it will be held double.
Yardage:
Color A (pink): 327 yd/299 m
Color B (gray): 191 yd/175 m -measurement accounts for holding your yarn double
Color C (purple): 211 yd/193 m
Color D (green): 219 yd/201 m
Gauge: 22 sts x 32 rows = 4x4 inches in stockinette on size US 5/3.75 mm needles, or needles to obtain gauge, worked flat and blocked
Suggested Needles: US 5/3.75mm straight or circular
Techniques: You will need to know how to knit, purl, slip stitches, yarn over, knit front back, and knit 2 together
