Saturday Socks
These soft, cozy socks are perfect for a nice relaxing weekend at home. They are thick enough to be cushy, yet thin enough to fit in your slip-on shoes or Uggs if you need to step out to get the newspaper or make a run to the store to get more snacks. Use alpaca or wool sock yarn with excellent drape. For size 7-8 use extra-fine sock yarn for a snug fit or regular sock yarn for a slouchy, loose fit. For size 8-9 use a regular sock yarn for a snug fit or heavier sock yarn for slouchy, loose fit. Reinforcement yarn is highly recommended for the toe and heel. Without it, the thickness of the heel and toe will not match the thickness of the waffle-weave stitches of the foot and leg of the sock. Reinforcement yarn is not typically available in the average yarn store. It’s usually only available in specialty yarn shops or online. To add it, simply strand it with the sock yarn and work stitches with both strands of yarn. If you do not have reinforcement yarn, you could get by using a heavier weight sock yarn just for the toe and heel.
Size - Fits an average sized woman. (US 7 – 9)
Hook - US C 2 / 2.75 mm
Yarn - 600 yds/ 550m sock yarn.
Choose a very soft alpaca or wool blend with supple drape. Try to avoid super dark colors unless you have excellent eyesight!
