I was recently gifted a large quantity of laceweight yarn from a fellow knitter who was downsizing her stash. Some of the skeins had labels, some did not. Some yarns have been discontinued. So the yarn weight/yardage given are approximates only.

As this was conceived as a stash busting project, look for laceweight yarns that complement each other. I used a variegated yarn plus two complementary solids. The idea was to use two strands together, alternating the solid colors throughout the project. You might make different choices depending on what you have in your stash, or what catches your eye at your favorite yarn shop. The finished shawl weighed in at 137 grams. So, two skeins of 100 grams each would be more than sufficient, if you were buying new. Or, one full skein, plus smaller amounts in complimentary colors, if you plan to change colors as I did.

Once again, I’m using a 4mm circular needle. You will want one at least 32 inches long. The pattern uses stocking stitch throughout except at the border.

Skills needed for this project include: casting on and off, increasing stitches, knit and purl stitches, yarn overs.
