This rectangular shawl is knit from one short end to the other, and grafted in the middle. It is knit from a drapey fingering weight yarn and will require 750-800 yards to knit as written. The pattern may be easily shortened or lengthened, but be aware this will alter the amount of yardage needed for the pattern. The lace patterns are presented in chart-only format. The pattern was worked using (optional) size 6 seed beads, and you will need approximately 480 beads to complete the project as written.

This stole was inspired by Nitta Sayuri, the heroine of Memoirs of a Geisha. I chose motifs from the story - the rocky cliffs at the water from her childhood, floral motifs from the elegant kimonos she wore as a geisha, and an undulating lace path - to represent the twists and turns her life took.
