Scallop Brim Hat
CONSTRUCTION NOTES
This hat is knit in the round from the bottom of the brim up to the top using two complimentary colors. There are two sections of knitting: 1) the brim and 2) the body of the hat. The scallops of the brim are created by a series of increases (LLI and RLI) and decreases (sk2p). It’s important that the increases are invisible so that the brim doesn’t have any holes letting in cold air! You could use m1L (make 1 left) and m1R (make 1 right), but I prefer the lifted increase technique described and demonstrated here: https://www.purlsoho.com/create/lifted-increases-rli-lli/
NEEDLES, NOTIONS & YARN
I used one set of US size 8 (5 mm) double-pointed needles (dpns) to work both the brim and the body of the hat. You’ll also need 6 stitch markers, plus a yarn or tapestry needle weave in loose ends. For the hat pictured, I used Léttlopi yarn in Golden Heather as COLOR 1 (I used about 1/3 of a skein, where a full skein is 109 yards/50 grams) and Bottle Green Heather as COLOR 2 (I used about 2/3 of a skein). Any worsted weight yarn should work fine; I test-knitted the hat using Cascade 220 and it turned out great!
